Film Synopsis :
Set in the future, where
our factories have filled the planet with intoxicated air, Humans started
living in the deserted wastelands. Smog covers the skies and hides the Sun.
Lithops, a 12 year old girl, lives an empty, dull life in this deserted world with
her older sister Miasma. Imprisoned behind her gas mask and thick cloths,
Lithops grows the need to break out of this prison to feel the sunlight and
breathe the clean air. We follow her in her quest for freedom, finding her true
Trivia: The lead actress
isn't actually a teenager; she is a cinema student at the same university where
I studied. She wears thick glasses, has allergies and has a fear of the sea and
heights. She had to wear a gas mask and very large gloves in the film. In one
scene, she had to hit a lamp with a rock from over 10 meters away. With tears
filling her eyes from allergy, we took this shot a bunch of times until she hit
the metallic body, not just the lamp! I used this take anyway and put a SFX of
a breaking glass. In the intro shot of Lythops throwing rocks in the sea, the
art director was hiding below her between the rocks, because she couldn't sit
there alone due to her phobias.
No sound was taken on set for the whole film
and the sound design was done in post-production. I actually wore the gas mask
and breathed in front of a microphone for 15 minutes while watching the film. I
also wore the actress's clothes and made the sound effects while watching her
move and walk, for it to be completely authentic.
